3 ways I am using an Innovator’s Mindset in Phys. Ed and Health
Editors Note: William Bode is a teacher at Performance Learning Center High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 2016, he will be entering his 25th year in teaching and was named the 2015 North Carolina High School Teacher of the Year. He is the co-creator and an integral member of the #PhysEdSummit team. As a high school physical education and health teacher, he adds a unique and necessary perspective to the discussions here at PHYSEDagogy as a guest writer for the blog.
I like to read during the summer as a way to recharge and get fresh ideas for the upcoming school year. As a connected educator, Twitter and Voxer, I get to see recommendations from other teachers on what they found to be worth their time. Believe me there are a lot of books out there that I want to read, but this summer I purchased two. The first one, Innovator’s Mindset by George Couros, is a book that made me feel that I wasn’t alone in my thoughts about how a classroom, school, and a district could be run to foster a culture of learning for everybody.
Why is the #PhysEdSummit 2016 logo pink + T-shirt fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness.
As many of you have already noticed, the #PhysEdSummit 2016 logo is pink this year. The question is, why? Team #PhysEd is a close community that not only cares about kids, but cares for their own. This year, the #PhysEdSummit Team would like to bring breast cancer awareness to the attention of the global #HealthEd and #PhysEd community. Please help us in supporting Kathleen Bode, fellow physical educator and wife of William Bode (and #PhysEdSummit team member), as she battles breast cancer. Read More
PHYSEDagogy welcomes Jorge Rodriguez
With a week before the 2016 National Physical Education and School Sport Institute and a little over a month before our own #PhysEdSummit 2016, we’ve been taking some time reflecting on the mission of what we do here at PHYSEDagogy. One of the key values that we have held from the beginning has been:
We want to continue to grow–and grow with people who: have a passion for what they do, care about advancing the physical education profession, have diverse perspectives and life experiences to be able to comment authentically on a wider range of issues, and are representative of many of the students whom we serve.
So with this in mind we’d like to offer a warm welcome to the newest member of the core PHYSEDagogy team: Jorge Rodriguez from Houston, Texas.
Jorge Rodriguez is originally from McAllen, Texas and now lives in Houston. He attended the University of Houston where he was a high jumper on the track team and earned his Bachelors degree in Kinesiology with a minor in health. Jorge later went to receive his Masters degree in Educational Leadership from American College of Education. He is currently a physical education teacher at Harvard Elementary (an IB and STEM magnet school) in the Houston Independent School District, and is a Lead Teacher and the KEY teacher for physical education for the district. He is also an active member in Texas AHPERD, and sits on the recreation and social media committees and chairs the diversity section. Jorge absolutely loves his profession and is dedicated to do all he can to make it better!
We first started working with Jorge in the Voices of #PhysEd blog series and now that work will continue. Jorge also is one of educators who is responsible for producing the Voxcast. With Jorge now part of the PHYSEDagogy team, there will be a special tab on our website now dedicated to the Voxcast. Stay tuned because there is much more to come! In the mean time, let’s give a warm welcome to Jorge for joining the team!
