Using Augmented Reality to Increase Physical Activity Outside of School

Augmented reality, or AR, opens the door for various possibilities in a Physical Education/physical activity setting. Augmented reality works similar to a QR code, but instead of a QR code you have a target. A target can be a picture or even a real-life object. Once the target is activated it can overlay an object onto your screen, take you to an URL and much more. A great example of how the overlay works is Anatomy 4D. To see how the URL feature works, watch the following video, which briefly demonstrates one way AR can be used to increase physical activity outside of school. Request an invite for a AR account through DAQRI here.

  2. Interesting post, Collin. I was under the impression that, rather than linking to a static url, AR overlaid rich media on top of the physical image/landscape the app would recognize (truly augmenting the reality you are facing), similar to what you’ll find in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqUSfjTSLyo#t=77

That being said, I could definitively see how using DAQRI in this way could be beneficial when it comes to designing learning materials, in the sense that it could save you the landscape a QR code would usually take on the document.

    Thanks for sharing!

    • Hey Joey , thanks for yor comments. As you know the static URL is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to augmented reality. This is definitely my journey discovering the different ways that AR is applicable to physical education. Here’s my latest YouTube video that I created with fitness task cards as the overlay to the target. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YCfWQA16Zto
I’m extremely excited to discover all the different ways in which physical education teachers can use AR to improve their teaching and also to increase physical activity outside of school.

  4. You actually make it seem so easy with your
presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand.
It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking
forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!

  5. Augmented reality based education product SARAL has helped over 250+ schools in India and Nepal. The educational transformation with these 3D learning tool for classroom has bright future. Learning for kids are certainly more fun with introduction of augmented reality in early childhood education. Thanks for sharing this informative post.
